Discover Now will run a teacher training program in 2024. Prior to the in-person component, we will provide online training via email and Zoom. This training will include “homework” assignments to prepare for the in-person instruction, and will cover the basic theoretical concepts necessary to understand the lab work done in the typical Stan-X school. These lessons will also allow teachers to discuss school specific needs and implementation tactics.
The in-person training week will run July 10-14 on the Lawrenceville school campus in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Each day will be an intensive, immersive experience focused on training teachers in the lab skills necessary to run the typical Stan-X program. Teachers will experience fly pushing, fly stock maintenance, molecular biology techniques, larval dissection, immunostaining and microscopy. We will also discuss lab setup and equipment acquisition. This week will also serve as a time for networking, to help build contacts within the Stan-X team, on whom you will rely as you build your program.
Breakfast, lunch and 2 group dinners will be provided. We recommend lodging at the Hilton Garden Inn for easy access to campus, though we can send you a larger list of lodging recommendations in the Lawrenceville/Princeton area upon request.
Cost of the program is $2300/person.*
If you attended the virtual training last year, you are welcome to sign up just for the in-person training. And if you are in a building-phase for your school you can sign up for the course in 2024 and start your school’s course later.
All curricular materials are provided free of charge.
